TEWLS is a community legal service that provides free and culturally appropriate legal services to women in the greater Darwin area. CAWLS is a busy community law firm with a dynamic and dedicated team dedicated to representing and delivering exceptional results to our clients through legal reform, legal advice and representation, legal education and public relations. Many clients are women who have been or are experiencing family and family violence. Women can receive legal advice in all of the following areas: TEWLS provides free legal services to women in the Top End, including legal advice, representation and advocacy. Under the direction of the Practice Manager, the lawyer will engage in legal advice, cases, outreach clinics, information and referrals, community engagement, community legal education and legal reform. CAWLS was born out of necessity. In the early 1990s, a group of dedicated women lawyers began offering free legal advice to women in need. Most of these women were victims of domestic violence and had no other access to legal advice. Over time, it became clear that women in Central Australia needed full-time legal services.

A submission to the federal government eventually led to the founding of CASSA. TEWLS is unable to provide legal advice on criminal, migration or commercial law.
